Free-to-download software for processing scintigraphic data

The following software programs, available for free download, were developed by Fayçal Ben Bouallègue and Denis Mariano-Goulart.  Despite careful validation, and given the variety of commercially available medical imaging systems, the authors offer no guarantee regarding the medical conclusions that may be drawn from the use of these software resources. Such conclusions must be made by a physician qualified to validate the results provided by these programs and are the sole responsibility of that physician.

  • Analysis of isotopic ventriculography(TOMPOOL). This software processes a DICOM image containing HLA slices reconstructed from isotopic tomoventriculograms synchronized with the electrocardiogram. It allows for the estimation, for the right and left ventricles, of the ejection fraction, volumes (at each time point), flow rates, as well as the values and time points of peak filling and emptying. This software also allows for the estimation of these parameters on each surface element of the right and left ventricles, thereby enabling the assessment of the dispersion of these parameters within a ventricle or between the two cardiac ventricles. The list of publications available on this site provides comprehensive information on the validation of this software. For an easy start, use the H key on your keyboard and the help menu.
    • Download the software TomPool (Compatible with Anger, CZT GE Alcyone NM530c, and D-SPECT cameras)
      • Note: For data from CZT D-SPECT cameras, you must apply a top-to-bottom symmetry using the Shift+V keyboard shortcut when positioning the valve plane on the sagittal views (second step of the initial processing).
    • Download a sample set of HLA sections to process using the tompool software
    • Download normal values for isotope tomoventriculography
    • Download a video demonstrating how to use the TOMPOOL software
  • Quantitative analysis of myocardial MIBG scintigrams. This software reads a DICOM image containing a series of HLA slices reconstructed from a myocardial MIBG scintigraphy scan (not synchronized with the ECG). It allows the user to define the left myocardial region between two 3D elliptical masks and then quantify regional MIBG uptake (as a percentage of maximum myocardial uptake and as a score).
  • Quantitative analysis of pulmonary perfusion in posterior oblique views. This software reads a right posterior oblique image and a left posterior oblique image from a pulmonary perfusion scintigraphy scan in DICOM (DCM) format. It prompts the user to draw a region of interest around the left lung (on the OPG image) and the right lung (on the OPD image), then automatically segments each lung into upper lobes, lower lobes, middle lobe, and lingula. The percentage of count rate in each region is then calculated. Finally, the results are exported in JPEG format for archiving on a PACS.
    • Download the PERF software
    • Download two images for testing the PERF software: OPD and OPG
    • Download a video demonstrating how to use the PERF software
  • Calculation of isotopic glomerular clearances. This program calculates glomerular clearance from venous samples of a radiotracer (Tc-DTPA, Cr-EDTA, Tc-MAG3, or I123-OIH) using a double-exponential fit, a single-exponential fit with Chantler, Brochner-Mortenssen, or Russel corrections, or a single-sample technique.
